About Mr. Georgios Arealis


George is a Consultant Trauma and Orthopaedic Surgeon at East Kent University Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust, specialising in shoulder, elbow and upper limb surgery.  He is also also Visiting Professor (Faculty of Medicine, Health and Social Care, Canterbury Christchurch University), Honorary Researcher (School Of Engineering and Digital Arts
University Of Kent) and Clinical and Educational Supervisor for the Stage 3 year 5 King's College London Medical Students. He teaches medical students in three medical schools (King's College London, European University of Cyprus and Kent and Medway Medical School).

He practices privately at all The Spencer Private Hospitals in Kent and at the Phoenix Hospital Group in London (Weymouth Street Hospital and 25 Harley Street).  His areas of expertise include arthroscopic management of shoulder and elbow problems and primary, as well as, revision arthroplasty. He has a particular interest in biologic treatments for arthritis and sports injuries and 10 years experience of using platelet rich plasma.

He completed the prestigious Reading Shoulder and Elbow Centre Fellowship and the Shoulder and Knee Sports Fellowship at the large joints unit of the Royal Orthopaedic Hospital. He is a fellow of the Royal College of Surgeons of England, International member of the American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons and member of the European Shoulder Associates section of the European Society of Sports Traumatology, Knee Surgery & Arthroscopy.

 Mr Arealis has a strong research background and was awarded his PhD from the University of Thessaloniki and has since contributed to several postgraduate PhD and masters projects. He regularly lectures about shoulder and elbow surgery both nationally and on the international stage and is faculty of the Athens Shoulder Course. He is actively involved in clinical research and has published multiple peer-reviewed journals and his work can be found on Google scholar, ORCID and ResearchGate.

Teaching 


Mr Arealis is passionate about teaching. He is an  Visiting Professor, Faculty of Medicine, Health and Social Care, Canterbury Christchurch University and Honorary Researcher, School of Engineering and Digital Arts, Teaching last year biomedical engineering students, subject: orthopaedic implants.

He is involved in teaching of medical students in 3 medical schools:

Mr. Arealis is invited speaker and faculty in national and international meetings. He is regular faculty of the Athens Shoulder Course, Medway Shoulder Arthroscopy Course  and of Reading Shoulder Unit.

Research

George has a very strong research background and  strongly values the importance of contributing to medical innovation through research activities of a high standard.  

Working for his PhD he gained significant experience in experimental surgery and research methods. Research Fellowships in Greece and QMC Nottingham were undoubtedly the catalyst for fully developing research skills. 

Over the last 10 years he has 33 posters and e-posters and 60 oral presentations. He has published over 50 papers and 29 abstracts and has written chapters in Books, including 6 Six Chapters in the orthopaedic book of Athens Medical School.

His research interests include biologics, bioprinting, medical innovation and. orthopaedic surgery
